Reaching Out For Peace
Herat Forum for Peace
Monday March 29, 2021
The Herat Forum for Peace, held on March 29, 2021, is part of a series of forums held at the local level through a partnership between Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Afghanistan in cooperation with Afghanistan Public Policy Research Organization (APPRO) and Mediothek Afghanistan (MADPO), in seven locations in Afghanistan. The initiative, called Reaching out For Peace, will be held throughout 2021.
Forums for Peace create spaces for stakeholders to share experiences and express their hopes and anxieties about the prospects for peace, and to identify local impediments to peace and ways to overcome them through dialogue and exchange. The aim of these forums is to contribute to an inclusive and comprehensive peace process by engaging Afghan citizens “where they are”.
The Herat Peace Forum engages citizens from the provinces of Herat, Badghis, Farah and Nimruz. The observations by participants and the results of their dialogue, written up in briefs and recorded through visual media, will be shared with stakeholders and participants in other forums across the country. This first round of forums will form the basis for a second round of forum discussions in the Autumn of 2021 during which the comments and priorities raised in different regions in Afghanistan will be discussed and compared, drawing out a common vision for long-term stability needs of citizens from various geographical and social backgrounds.
